The brand is De’tayo Martins. Founded in December 2013 by Aina Adetayo Adegbola, the brand tailors’ bespoke suits and urban African wears for men. We had an interesting discussion with the founder/CEO of the De'tayo Martins Brand.
What is your full name?
My name is Aina Adetayo, native of Ogun State, Ijebu Ode Local Government area. I am the second of family of two. Had my secondary education at Mayflower school ikenne, Ogun State. Then on to Lagos State University where I studied Economics. I also have a diploma in Fashion Design and Pattern Making from Ginani Fashion Institute. I'm now a Fashion Entrepreneur.
What is your brand name and what is your brand about?
My brand name is De’tayo Martins, De'tayo from my First name Adetayo, Martins is my other name, and the idea is to build a business with global appeal, I thought it's best to use my name, a name that will cut across boarders. We tailor garments for Men- Suits(corporate)/ Urban African Wears. We are located at 4, Church Street Opebi, Ikeja Lagos.
What led you into entrepreneurship?
The passion for fashion basically! I resigned my previous job as a data analyst because I wasn’t feeling fulfilled. I knew I wasn’t where I ought to be and the passion kept eating me up till I took the bold step and ventured into building De'Tayo Martins. and the Brand will be 4 years by December 2017.
I went to mayflower school Ikenne, and then studied Economics in the Lagos state University. I studied at the Ginani Fashion Institute where I got a diploma in fashion design and pattern making.
What do you think of Small African Business Network?
I would say SABN is refreshing, a good platform dedicated to promoting/amplifying homegrown African Business(es).
What would you say to budding entrepreneurs out there?
I would say they should be fearless, embrace the process and then results will follow suit.
That was a little insight into the brand ‘De’tayo Martins’. Founded by a person who decided to pursue his passion, rather than keep living as a corporate clone. From working as a data analyst, to becoming his own fashion brand, he managed to show us that the limits to our success, is our imagination, and commitment.
